# Welcome

## What is Merge?

Merge is the collaborative result of multi-functional teams and individuals who focus on providing **Software as a Service (SaaS) powered by the Blockchain**. With the support of the MERGE Cryptocurrency, it provides a wide range of solutions for crypto and non-crypto oriented users, teams, and companies.

Find out more at: <https://www.projectmerge.org>

## Merge's C**ryptocurrency**

In order to provide our solutions, we use a [cryptocurrency](/#what-is-a-cryptocurrency) that supports all transactions that run over the [blockchain](/#what-is-a-blockchain). Such cryptocurrency is called **Merge** and uses the ticker **MERGE**. It comes with several features, such as [masternodes](/guides/wallet/masternodes) and [proof-of-stake](/guides/wallet/pos-staking) to reward those users that hold the coin and support the network.

Learn more about Merge's cryptocurrency at: <http://coin.projectmerge.org>

Buy MERGE on any of the [exchanges](/links#exchanges) where the coin is listed.

### Merge's Wallet

Merge's digital wallet serves as a [cryptocurrency wallet](/#what-is-a-cryptocurrency-wallet) that stores MERGE's public and private keys and allows the reception and expenditure of the coin. Moreover, the wallet does take benefit of the coin's features by providing the following options:

* CPU mining during the PoW phase (see [PoW - CPU Mining](/guides/wallet/pow-cpu-mining) for more information).
* Staking during the PoS phase (see [PoS - Staking](/guides/wallet/pos-staking) for more information).
* Act as a Local Wallet to control Merge masternodes (see [Masternodes](/guides/wallet/masternodes) for more information).

Learn all about Merge's wallet in section [Wallet](/guides/wallet).

## Merge's Ecosystem

Having our cryptocurrency as the basic element for transactions and agreements, our ecosystem focuses on providing income to developers and offering unprecedented benefits to users and partners who consume services, thanks to the use of [**Tokenomics**](/faq/tokenomics).

Additionally, we work on the development of **Membrane**, a platform for developers and companies that help build blockchain-based apps and work on existing software that is aimed to integrate with blockchain technology.

<div align="center"><img src="/files/-MAlcMY4tb-N8pWlwtGq" alt=""></div>

### Developers

Developers are invited to build apps and any software solutions they wish to publish with us. These can be blockchain and non-blockchain based.

Their creations are transitioned, if not already, to **Software as a Service** that will be advertised to our users and partners.

These services can be charged via subscriptions, with our [Escrow Services using Tokenomics](/#escrow-services-using-tokenomics), or one-time or commission-based payments.

Developers get paid by us for the services being in use.

Developers can [email us](mailto:contact@projectmerge.org) for more information or start publishing software.

### Users and Partners

Users and partners use software services. [Services](/#merges-services) are offered in two different modalities:

1\. **Services that use Tokenomics:** these are services that fully benefit consumers, as they do not lose the tokens they credit in order to use the mentioned services. After making an initial deposit to secure a service, our [Escrow Services](/#escrow-services-using-tokenomics) are in charge of keeping the deposit safe and paying the developer that provides the service during a predetermined period.

Both the developer and user/partner can agree on a service renewal by the end of the service period. We will keep on paying the developer until one of the sides decides to not renew the service at the end of the current period. At that moment, **we return to the user/partner the tokens that were deposited** to secure the service. This way, the tokens were simply borrowed and not spent by us.&#x20;

2\. **Services that require one-time or commission-based payments:** these are services that do not require subscriptions, but rather a one-time payment, or e-commerce solutions that take commissions from purchases on the Web.

### Escrow Services using Tokenomics

Merge acts as a third party between developers (providers) and users and partners (consumers), regulating the flow of funds in a given transaction.

This Escrow Service adds a layer of security to the transaction by keeping the tokens in a safe place, releasing it only when the terms of the agreement are met. Particularly, we act as the escrow agent, or trusted third-party, for holding MERGE tokens between the two transacting parties.

We pay on behalf of the consumer for the services being in use. The key concept is that, unlike other traditional escrow services, **we pay the consumer's bills without touching her/his capital or principal amount**. This is possible thanks to the token economics, or Tokenomics, that is being applied:

*During the time of the agreement between the consumer and the provider, our Escrow Service stakes the consumer's MERGE tokens and also places them in masternodes. These produce staking rewards for providing security and connectivity to Merge's blockchain.*

**These rewards**, in turn, **are used to pay the provider**. Thus, we protect and make smart use of the consumer's deposited capital.

The terms of the agreement can be extended by both parties, allowing the consumer unlimited use of the service. **The consumer's deposited capital is returned to the consumer** once any of the two parties decide to not extend the terms of the agreement.

## What is a b**lockchain**? <a href="#what-is-a-blockchain" id="what-is-a-blockchain"></a>

A blockchain, is a growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked using cryptography. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp and transaction data (generally represented as a Merkle tree root hash). By design, a blockchain is resistant to modification of the data. It is "an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way". For use as a distributed ledger, a blockchain is typically managed by a peer-to-peer network collectively adhering to a protocol for inter-node communication and validating new blocks. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires consensus of the network majority.

### Difference between blockchain and traditional technology

Blockchain databases consist of several decentralized nodes. Each node participates in administration: all nodes verify new additions to the blockchain and are capable of entering new data into the database. For an addition to be made to the blockchain, the majority of nodes must reach consensus. This consensus mechanism guarantees the security of the network, making it difficult to tamper with.

### What does a blockchain offer?

* **Decentralized control:** Distributing administrative powers or functions of a central authority over a less concentrated area.
* **Confidentiality:** Being a write-uncontrolled, read-uncontrolled database. That means anyone can write a new block into the chain, and anyone can read a block in the chain.
* **Timestamping:** Cryptocurrencies use various timestamping schemes to "prove" the validity of transactions added to the blockchain ledger without the need for a trusted third party.
* **Anonymity:** Cryptocurrency is pseudonymous rather than anonymous in that the cryptocurrency within a wallet is not tied to people, but rather to one or more specific keys (or "addresses"). Thereby, cryptocurrency owners are not identifiable, but all transactions are publicly available in the blockchain.

The blockchain process of transacting and storing information on a decentralized, distributed ledger yields many benefits for enterprise application data:

* An integrated network, updated in real-time with always-consistent data.
* Ability to set rules for each blockchain enforces compliance.
* Tracing data from provenance to present to reduce disputes or discourage fraudulent activity.
* Increased efficiency of industry processes, reduced auditing costs.
* Consent, protection and control of consumer/customer data.
* High level of trust in repository of transactional data.

Traditional databases use a client-server network architecture. Here, a user (known as a client) can modify data, which is stored on a centralized server. Control of the database remains with a designated authority, which authenticates a client’s credentials before providing access to the database. Since this designated authority is responsible for the administration of the database, if the security of the authority is compromised, the data can be altered, or even deleted.\

## What is a c**ryptocurrency**? <a href="#what-is-a-cryptocurrency" id="what-is-a-cryptocurrency"></a>

A cryptocurrency is an alternative form of payment to cash, credit cards and checks. The technology behind it allows you to send it directly to others without going through a 3rd party like a bank. This means you do not have to use your social security or credit score as collateral and allows you to be reasonably pseudonymous. In other words, cryptocurrencies are like virtual accounting systems. They keep a record of all transactions. The transactions are bundled into blocks, which are cryptographically signed (hence “crypto” currency) and the client doing the signing gets some number of units of virtual currency (and potentially transaction fees) as a reward for doing the work of calculating the cryptographic signature.

### **How do cryptocurrencies work?**&#x20;

Cryptocurrencies use decentralised technology to let users make secure payments and store money without the need to use their name or go through a bank. They run on a distributed public ledger called blockchain, which is a record of all transactions updated and held by currency holders.

### **Why would you use a cryptocurrency?**

Cryptocurrencies are known for being secure and providing a level of anonymity. Transactions in them cannot be faked or reversed and they tend to be low fees, making it more reliable than conventional currency. Their decentralised nature means they are available to everyone, where banks can be exclusive in who they will let open accounts. As a new form of cash, the cryptocurrency markets have been known to take off meaning a small investment can become a large sum over night. But the same works the other way. People look to invest in cryptocurrencies should be aware of the volatility of the market and the risks they take when buying.

## What is a c**ryptocurrency** wallet?

It is a digital wallet that stores the public and private keys which can be used to receive or spend a cryptocurrency. A wallet can contain multiple public and private key pairs. The cryptocurrency itself is not in the wallet. It is decentrally stored and maintained in the blockchain. With the private key, it is possible to digitally sign a transaction and write it in the public ledger, effectively spending the associated cryptocurrency.

# Wallet

## About Merge's Wallet <a href="#about-merges-wallet" id="about-merges-wallet"></a>

Merge's wallet is made up of two halves. One is the public, shareable part called the public key. The other is the private part that is required for spending the stored MERGE in that wallet. If you want to receive MERGE into your wallet, you should provide one of your public addresses. Think of the public part of Merge's wallet as your email address and the private part as the password to that email address: you can share the email address freely, but not the password.

(Note: Only download files from the [official source](http://coin.projectmerge.org/wallet)[.](https://gitlab.projectmerge.org/ProjectMerge) Do not trust shared links in YouTube, comments, descriptions or elsewhere)

## Setup your Merge Wallet <a href="#setup-your-merge-wallet" id="setup-your-merge-wallet"></a>

### **Install the Wallet** <a href="#install-the-wallet" id="install-the-wallet"></a>

Visit the [official source](http://coin.projectmerge.org/wallet) for current wallets available and download the one of your preference.

### **Encrypt the Wallet** <a href="#encrypt-the-wallet" id="encrypt-the-wallet"></a>

Encrypting your wallet is a great idea to prevent other people using your computer to steal your money or your wallet.dat file. Please don’t forget the encryption's password. If you lose it, you can’t access your funds anymore and we will not be able to help.

In your Merge wallet, click on Settings > Encrypt Wallet... and add your password (passphrase) in order to encrypt your wallet. A confirmation plus the encryption process (can take a few minutes) will follow:

<div align="left"><img src="https://blobscdn.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LQuM23KTcTLpkSPm3CG%2F-LQuNndEsyzRlwpID1tV%2F2%20(2).PNG?alt=media&#x26;token=5c2eced8-1d99-4377-8825-c122834248bf" alt=""></div>

### **Back up the Wallet** <a href="#back-up-the-wallet" id="back-up-the-wallet"></a>

**This action is very important. Don't forget to back up your wallet.dat!**

Always keep backups in multiple places so your money is safe in case you lose access to the computer.

**Every time you create a new receiving address, you must backup your wallet.dat file or you risk losing your newly received funds!**

#### **1. Backup wallet.dat (Automatic)** <a href="#id-1-backup-wallet-dat-automatic" id="id-1-backup-wallet-dat-automatic"></a>

Whenever a change is made on your Merge wallet (ex. creating a new address for a masternode), an automatic backup will be made. They can be found here:

* Windows: **`%Appdata%/merge/backups/`**
* Linux: **`~/.merge/backups/`**
* Mac: **`~/Library/Application Support/merge/backups/`**

#### **2. Backup wallet.dat (Manual)** <a href="#id-2-backup-wallet-dat-manual" id="id-2-backup-wallet-dat-manual"></a>

In your Merge wallet, click and follow the steps on File > Backup Wallet...

#### **3. Backup wallet.dat** (Manual) <a href="#id-3-backup-wallet-dat-manual" id="id-3-backup-wallet-dat-manual"></a>

* Make sure your Merge wallet is closed.
* Go to your Merge wallet folder:
  * Windows: **`%Appdata%/merge/`**
  * Linux: **`~/.merge/`**
  * Mac: **`~/Library/Application Support/merge/`**
* Copy the wallet.dat file and save it in a secure location. Remember: if your wallet is unencrypted and it gets stolen, your MERGE is not safe! You can backup the merge.conf and masternode.conf files as well.

#### **4. Backup wallet's private keys** (Manual) <a href="#id-4-backup-wallets-private-keys-manual" id="id-4-backup-wallets-private-keys-manual"></a>

In your Merge wallet, go to Tools > Debug console:

<div align="left"><img src="https://blobscdn.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LQuM23KTcTLpkSPm3CG%2F-LQuNwOggRnfA8Jlg1tm%2F5.PNG?alt=media&#x26;token=536d920b-bd32-4c6a-9cf5-43adee1cc98b" alt=""></div>

The debug console window will appear:

![](https://blobscdn.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LQuM23KTcTLpkSPm3CG%2F-LQuO0F_1sOsXmhGMETA%2F6.PNG?alt=media\&token=c25aa8d0-813f-4ed3-a9f0-92161a42cb41)

Type into the command line at the bottom:

**dumpprivkey (paste your MERGE address here, leaving a space between the command and the address)**

The wallet address looks similar to this “**MGjMS1zhYjfMKKGcexcPkkz3nb7VH3apBP**”. Every MERGE address starts with **M.**

Press “Enter” with the keyboard. The wallet address and private key will appear in the console window.

Remember to leave a space between the dumpprivkey command and the MERGE address.

Write down, print and/or save the private key. This will help you recovering your funds from that MERGE address anywhere regardless whether you have lost your computer or password.

Each MERGE address in the wallet has a different private key so you must repeat this for each one.

**NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR PRIVATE KEYS!**

Keep your funds safe by saving your private keys.

# PoW - CPU Mining

{% hint style="info" %}
**The CPU mining phase has ended.** [**PoS - Staking**](/guides/wallet/pos-staking) **and** [**Masternodes**](/guides/wallet/masternodes) **are currently active.**
{% endhint %}

## What is CPU Mining? <a href="#what-is-cpu-mining" id="what-is-cpu-mining"></a>

**CPU mining** is a process of adding transaction records to the public ledger of cryptocurrency by performing necessary calculations with **Central Processing Unit (CPU)**. CPU is a part of computer that provides computing power for execution of operations performed by software installed on that computer.&#x20;

Merge's wallet supports CPU mining of MERGE until block 57,601.

Source: <https://en.bitcoinwiki.org/wiki/CPU_mining>

## Setup CPU Mining <a href="#setup-cpu-mining" id="setup-cpu-mining"></a>

### Merge Wallet

Follow the next steps:

1. Open the wallet.
2. Go to Tools > Debug console.
3. Type **`setgenerate true "X"`**

Where "X" is the number of CPU cores you are running on your machine.

Example: setgenerate true 2 \
This is for a machine having 2 CPU cores.

### CPU Miner

You will need to have a MERGE address in your possession in order to benefit from the CPU Miner application. See [Wallet](/guides/wallet) to get a Merge wallet and take your MERGE address from "Receiving addresses...":

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LUfX97ZWbdTfF23dqTM" alt="Receiving addresses..."></div>

Also, you will need to choose a pool to mine with. There are details of suitable pools in the #merge-pool channel in [Discord](http://discord.projectmerge.org). The pools generally provide the essential parameters you will need for the CPU Miner. Some tweaking of the values might be necessary.

#### Linux

These instructions assume familiarity with the command line and some Linux competence. The below has been tested on an Ubuntu 16 based system.

Follow the next steps:

1. Install dependencies:

   ```bash
   sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
   sudo apt-get install automake autoconf pkg-config libcurl4-openssl-dev libjansson-dev libssl-dev libgmp-dev make g++
   ```
2. Download CPU Miner's source code, compile and build the miner:

   ```bash
   git clone https://github.com/ProjectMerge/cpuminer-merge.git
   cd cpuminer-merge
   ./build.sh
   ```
3. If you want the miner to be generally available on your machine, then:

   ```bash
   sudo make install
   ```
4. Run the CPU Miner:\
   Either from the `cpuminer-merge` directory by:

   ```
   ./cpuminer -a argon2m -o <your chosen pool> -u <your MERGE address> <any other parms recommended by your chosen pool> <any other parms>
   ```

   or, if installed system-wide or any other location in your path:

   ```
   cpuminer -a argon2m -o <your chosen pool> -u <your MERGE address> <any other parms recommended by your chosen pool> <any other parms>
   ```

   For example:

   ```
   ./cpuminer -a argon2m -o stratum+tcp://stratum.icemining.ca:4240 -u MTqTm4KQq9dbxrtLgpzpxDLZnbR18nHKsp -p c=MERGE
   ```

   which uses values for the icemining pool. This is NOT a recommendation, just a known working example. Be **VERY** careful to use the correct receiving address. If you get it wrong, the rewards will still be sent there and you will never see them!

#### Windows

Follow the next steps:

1. Download the CPU Miner: <https://github.com/ProjectMerge/cpuminer-merge/releases/download/release/cpuminer-merge-win64.zip>
2. Unzip and extract the folder **`cpuminer-merge-win64`**
3. Open "Windows Command Prompt" or any other console you use and navigate to folder **`cpuminer-merge-win64`**
4. Using the console, run the CPU miner:&#x20;

   ```bash
   cpuminer.exe -a argon2m -o <your chosen pool> -u <your MERGE address> <any other parms recommended by your chosen pool> <any other parms>
   ```

   For example:

   ```
   cpuminer.exe -a argon2m -o stratum+tcp://pool.hashpool.eu:2811 -u MTZjwpSoJ95Hzj99iNyQAh8xbfk92B7sCG -p x
   ```

   which uses values for the hashpool pool. This is NOT a recommendation, just a known working example. Be **VERY** careful to use the correct receiving address. If you get it wrong, the rewards will still be sent there and you will never see them!

## Stop CPU Mining <a href="#stop-cpu-mining" id="stop-cpu-mining"></a>

### Merge Wallet

Follow the next steps:

1. Open the wallet.
2. Go to Tools > Debug console.
3. Type **`setgenerate false`**

### CPU Miner

#### Linux

Type \<Ctrl> + c on the console to end the miner.

#### Windows

Close "Windows Command Prompt" window or the console you are using to run the miner.

# PoS - Staking

## What is Staking? <a href="#what-is-staking" id="what-is-staking"></a>

Using the Proof of Stake (PoS) algorithm is the basis of many new cryptocurrencies. Staking involves the purchase of crypto coins and holding them in a wallet for a particular period of time. This is similar to a fixed deposit in the non-digital currency sphere that rewards you with a defined interest at the end of the period as stipulated in the contract. Proof of Stake also rewards you with additional coins. By holding coins in your wallet, you are rewarded for supporting the network. Therefore, your coins will increase in number depending on how long you hold them in the wallet.&#x20;

Merge's wallet supports staking of MERGE starting on block 57,602.

Source: <https://www.tokens24.com/cryptopedia/basics/staking-vs-mining-cryptocurrencies>

## Setup Staking <a href="#setup-staking" id="setup-staking"></a>

Staking with Merge is extremely simple. Following these steps will ensure that you are on the network earning that MERGE interest.

1. Follow the [Wallet](/guides/wallet) setup guide.
2. Make sure you have sent coins into your wallet and that they have been there during at least 1 hour.
3. In your Merge wallet, click Settings > Unlock Wallet...:

   ![](https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LQuOT7ee1w_S5VKQAsS%2F-LQuOZbBBcBbR_24oHoz%2F7%20\(1\).PNG?alt=media\&token=f2f79e97-0fbe-4339-9570-efb0eced8e5d)
4. Tick the “For anonymization and staking only” option.
5. Enter your passphrase and click OK:

<div align="left"><img src="https://blobscdn.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LQuOT7ee1w_S5VKQAsS%2F-LQuOcYq2c4ONeMj1D1N%2F1%20(1).PNG?alt=media&#x26;token=a6c44b2f-b981-4e2e-9e8e-50693b034141" alt=""></div>

That's it! Now your bottom right arrow will be green and you are successfully staking!&#x20;

A successful stake will be seen as an entry on your "Recent transactions" and on your Transactions tab. It will look like any other deposit into your staking address.

## Stop Staking <a href="#stop-staking" id="stop-staking"></a>

Follow the next steps:

1. Close the wallet.
2. Go to MERGE's data directory:
   1. Windows: **`%Appdata%/merge/`**
   2. Linux: **`~/.merge/`**
   3. Mac: **`~/Library/Application Support/merge/`**
3. Open the file merge.conf and add this entry: **`staking=0`**
4. Save the file and close it.
5. Open the wallet again and verify the up arrow is not in green colour anymore:

<div align="left"><img src="https://blobscdn.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LTYYR3auPzfWrAZTFb0%2F-LTYgteUYH6LykMS790Q%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=8c105807-9f72-45f5-bce6-e1f0910acf91" alt=""></div>

# Masternodes

## What is a Masternode? <a href="#what-is-a-masternode" id="what-is-a-masternode"></a>

A node can simply be understood as a computer that plays a part in ensuring the integrity of a coin's network. The crypto space is not only decentralized but also distributed; therefore, it functions by several people running nodes from different parts of the world. That said, you require a full node to host a copy of the blockchain (coin’s ledger) and thus support the network.&#x20;

A masternode is a crypto full node (computer wallet) that supports the network by hosting an entire copy of the coin’s ledger in real time. In return, the masternode will receive crypto coins as a reward. It is a great alternative to mining.&#x20;

Merge's wallet supports masternodes of MERGE starting on block 57,602.&#x20;

## Setup a Merge Masternode <a href="#setup-a-merge-masternode" id="setup-a-merge-masternode"></a>

This guide is for a single masternode on a Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit server (VPS) running headless and will be controlled from the wallet on your local computer (Local Wallet). The wallet on the the VPS will be referred to as the Remote Wallet.&#x20;

You will need your server details for progressing through this guide.&#x20;

First the basic requirements:

1. 10,000 MERGE.
2. A local computer (your everyday computer) – This will run the Local Wallet, hold your collateral 10,000 MERGE and it can be turned on and off without affecting the masternode.
3. Masternode Server (VPS – the computer that will be on 24/7).
4. A unique IP address for your VPS / Remote Wallet.

(For security reasons, you are are going to need a different IP for each masternode you plan to host)

The basic reasoning for these requirements is that, you get to keep your MERGE in your local wallet and host your masternode remotely and securely.

### Local Wallet <a href="#local-wallet" id="local-wallet"></a>

1\) Using the Local Wallet, enter the debug console (Tools > Debug console) and type the following command: \
**`masternode genkey`** `(This will be the masternode’s private key. We will use this later…)`

2\) Using again the debug console, enter the following command: \
**`getaccountaddress`** **`chooseAnyNameForYourMasternode`**

3\) Still in the Local Wallet, send 10,000 MERGE to the address you generated in step 2. Be 100% sure that you entered the address correctly. You can verify this when you paste the address into the “Pay To:” field, the label will auto populate with the name you chose for the address. Also, make sure this is exactly 10,000 MERGE; no less, no more.\
\
**Be absolutely 100% sure that this is copied correctly. And then check it again. We cannot help you if you send 10,000 MERGE to an incorrect address.**

4\) Back to the debug console, enter the command: \
**`masternode outputs`** (this gets the proof of transaction of sending 10,000)

5\) Still on the local computer, go into the MERGE's data directory:

* Windows: **`%Appdata%/merge/`**
* Linux: **`~/.merge/`**
* Mac: **`~/Library/Application Support/merge/`**

Find and open file masternode.conf

<div align="left"><img src="https://blobscdn.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-28427.appspot.com/o/assets%2F-LQaIHDmyzbPZgS7Ew8z%2F-LQuPPwE4033lyMqwt5k%2F-LQuQjWWanXYkNh8o96A%2F2.PNG?alt=media&#x26;token=43cb11a8-c8ea-450c-8410-3453a857fb45" alt=""></div>

and add the following line to it:

```
<Name of Masternode (Use the name you entered earlier for the address for simplicity)> <Unique IP address>:52000 <The result of Step 1> <Result of Step 4> <The number after the long line in Step 4>
```

Example:

```
MN1 31.14.135.27:52000 892WPpkqbr7sr6Si4fdsfssjjapuFzAXwETCrpPJubnrmU6aKzh c8f4965ea57a68d0e6dd384324dfd28cfbe0c801015b973e7331db8ce018716999 1
```

Substitute it with your own values and without the “<>”s.

Save file masternode.conf and restart the Local Wallet.

### Remote Wallet <a href="#remote-wallet" id="remote-wallet"></a>

6\) Install dependencies (add *sudo* in the beginning of each call if you are not user *root*):

```bash
apt-get update
apt-get install -y build-essential autoconf automake libboost-all-dev libdb4.8-dev libdb4.8++-dev libevent-pthreads-2.0-5 miniupnpc pkg-config libtool libevent-dev git screen autotools-dev bsdmainutils lsof dos2unix zlib1g-dev curl ufw libgmp-dev libssl-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev wget software-properties-common
add-apt-repository -y ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
```

7\) Install the latest version of Merge's wallet:

* Go to your home directory:**`cd ~`**
* From your home directory, download the latest [wallet](http://coin.projectmerge.org/wallet):

  ```bash
  wget <link to the latest wallet binary (file ending with x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz)>
  ```

  Example:

  ```bash
  wget https://gitlab.projectmerge.org/ProjectMerge/merge/uploads/ef8c019f081cf4c982fb0dc43f4176e1/merge-1.0.3-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz
  ```
* Unzip and extract the binary: **`tar -zxvf <tar gz file you just downloaded>`**
* Go to the Merge wallet directory:**`cd ~/merge-<version-os>/bin/`**
* Note: If this is the first time running the wallet in the VPS, you will need to attempt to start the wallet **`./merged`** **.** This will place the config files in the **\~/.merge** data directory.

8\) Go to the Merge data directory: **`cd ~/.merge`**

9\) Open file merge.conf by typing **`vi merge.conf`** and then press **i** to go into insert mode and make the config look like this:

> ```
> rpcuser=long random username
> rpcpassword=longer random password
> rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
> listen=1
> server=1
> daemon=1
> logtimestamps=1
> maxconnections=256
> masternode=1
> port=52000
> externalip=your_unique_public_ip_address:52000
> masternodeprivkey=Result of Step 1
> ```

Make sure to replace rpcuser and rpcpassword with your own.

10\) To exit the editor, press **`esc`** , typ&#x65;**`:wq!`** and press enter.

### Start your Masternode <a href="#start-your-masternode" id="start-your-masternode"></a>

11\) Now, you need to start the following in this order:&#x20;

11.1) Remote Wallet:\
– First, go back to the Merge wallet directory, **`cd ~/merge-<version-os>/bin/`** \
– Start the wallet usin&#x67;**`./merged`** \
– Verify the daemon is running and being synchronized by typing **`./merge-cli getinfo`**\
– Verify the Remote Wallet is fully synchronized by ensuring the block height is the same as indicated on our official [Explorer](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/). See the current block height on the Remote Wallet by typing **`./merge-cli getblockcount`**

11.2) Local Wallet:\
– Wait until the 10,000 MERGE transaction has achieved at least 16 confirmations (you can check it directly on the Transactions tab).\
– Unlock the wallet (if it is encrypted) and type on the debug consol&#x65;**`startmasternode alias false <mymnalias>`** \
where \<mymnalias> is the name of your masternode alias (without the “<>”s).

The following should appear:

> "overall” : “Successfully started 1 masternodes, failed to start 0, total 1”, \
> “detail” : \[\
> &#x20;{\
> &#x20;“alias” : “\<mymnalias>”, \
> “result” : “successful”, \
> “error” : “” \
> }

12\) On the Remote Wallet, use the following command to check the status of the masternode:

**`./merge-cli masternode status`**

You should see something like:

> {\
> &#x20;“txhash” : “334545645643534534324238908f36ff4456454dfffff51311”, \
> “outputidx” : 0, \
> “netaddr” : “45.11.111.111:52000”, \
> “addr” : “M6fujc45645645445645R7TiCwexx1LA1”, \
> “status” : 4, \
> “message” : “Masternode successfully started” \
> }

Congratulations! You have successfully created your masternode!

## Stop a Merge Masternode <a href="#stop-a-merge-masternode" id="stop-a-merge-masternode"></a>

**How do I stop running MN1 on my VPS and delete MN1 from my Merge wallet?**

* On your Remote Wallet (VPS), go to the Merge wallet directory, **`cd ~/merge-<version-os>`**&#x61;nd stop the wallet usin&#x67;**`./merge-cli stop`**.
* Then, from your Local Wallet, edit your masternode.conf by deleting the MN1 masternode line entry.
* Restart the Local Wallet.
* The entry to MN1 under the Masternodes tab is now gone and your 10,000 MERGE are now unlocked.

**How do I get the 10,000 MERGE back that I sent to my MN1 address in the beginning of the MN1 setup?**

You do not need to “get that back” as it is already in your Merge wallet. \
Being in a different address is not an issue as that is also your address.

**Can I then use my 10,000 MERGE on my Merge wallet again and sell it or stake it like before?**

Yes.

# Cryptocurrency

## Buy

To buy MERGE, one can use any of the exchanges listed on [links](/links#exchanges). Notice that the exchanges trading MERGE usually use only one of the [chains](/faq/cryptocurrency#chains) we support.

## Chains

MERGE is available on its own blockchain (**Mainnet**) and the Binance Smart Chain (**BSC**).

In order to move MERGE across these chains, we will provide with a bridge tool that will safely perform such transitions (coming soon).

## Mainnet

MERGE addresses under this chain start with the letter '**M**'. Coins bought over the Mainnet can be moved to a personal [Wallet](/guides/wallet), [RocketBot](/services/rocketbot) or any other services that use this chain.

### Proof-of-Stake

Receiving Proof-of-Stake (PoS) rewards using Merge's [wallet](/guides/wallet) will depend on two factors:

1. Number of coins being staked. The more they are, the more chances to receive PoS rewards.
2. Age of the coins being staked. The longer the coins have been staked, the more increases the probability to receive PoS rewards.

## Binance Smart Chain (BSC)

MERGE addresses under this chain start with the letters '**0x**'. Coins bought over the BSC can be moved to BEP-20 compatible wallets and services, such as MetaMask and Trust Wallet.

To access our token on BSC, the following contract address must be used: [0x2D5c9167fDd5c068c8fcB8992e6Af639b42FBf70](https://bscscan.com/address/0x2d5c9167fdd5c068c8fcb8992e6af639b42fbf70)

### Liquidity Locked

To ensure the longevity of the project and trust towards the team at Merge, part of the liquidity pool at the Binance Smart Chain is locked during at least one year (time of writing this section: August 2021). This can be proved and monitored on our profile page at [team.finance](https://team.finance/view-coin/0x2D5c9167fDd5c068c8fcB8992e6Af639b42FBf70?name=Merge\&symbol=MERGE).

## Premine

Merge's coin has a premine of 33,000,000 MERGE.&#x20;

Two budgets were initially created with the premine, the Swap and Main budgets, which we explain below.

The premine as a whole is not used by Merge to increase income via PoS nor masternodes. However, the Merge team can use the MERGE they receive as compensation (from the Main Budget) the way they decide it is best.

[Track the premine](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/address/M8fcXqpZ7ysLftcCjUz9uyyZYcvBsPZRfW). Note: 20,000 MERGE from the Main Budget were initially used to setup 2 masternodes that supported the network.

[View the current status of the budget](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/richlist#budget).

### Swap Budget

It allocated 23,000,000 MERGE that was used to swap abandoned coins to Merge. Read more about swapping to Merge at [Swap to Merge](/archive/swap-to-merge).

[Track the Swap Budget (during swap period)](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/address/M85hUFb1K9qevKX3TnvVu7KRdsdbD4YNzk).

The swaps were active for a limited period of time. After that period, the remaining MERGE from the Swap Budget were time-locked for the next five years into sixty new MERGE addresses.

Each of the sixty addresses represents a month, being the first one for July 2019 and the last for June 2024. This way, each address is used as a monthly budget that funds community proposals for Merge and the payment of marketing, business, community and development related tasks. The amount not spent in a month is moved to the next month available after June 2024.

[Track the Swap Budget (after swap period)](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/tx/2c31279ce582d831d9bf7d6407b080e9a018323e871ad9c5b0c1d8dc8bd9d34c).

### Main Budget

Allocates 10,000,000 MERGE and is used to cover the costs for the continuous development of Merge. This involves the core team's [remuneration](/archive/faq/general#remuneration).

The Main Budget started in one concrete [address](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/address/MHUTW75XmTdij8FY3PHJkhhJpr9x489suC). Then it was moved to different ones until it got fixed into one, which can be tracked [here](https://explorer.projectmerge.org/address/MU4ucXvv5Tu2mxYx99VpZFxrScnSWTLi5r). Note: 20,000 MERGE from the premine were already used to setup two masternodes that supported the network.

## Block Rewards

Merge's coin block rewards is estimated to last during ten years from the genesis date, that is, until the end of 2028. After that, all payouts will cease unless any consensus change states otherwise.

By the time the exponential decrease starts, block rewards will decrease in variable intervals, being the longest 197 days.

See Merge's coin block rewards at <http://coin.projectmerge.org><br>

# Tokenomics

## **What is Merge Tokenomics about?**

Merge Tokenomics is the concept that allows consumers to use [services](/#merges-services) **by locking up** their capital in our private, secure and registered escrow during the period they use these services. At the same time, service providers **get paid** for their work thanks to the passive income Merge generates with the capital borrowed from the consumers.

At the end of the service agreement, consumers **get their capital back**, having been able, in turn, to use the services they needed during a predetermined period of time.

## **Who pays the service providers?**

[Merge Blockchain Development Group](https://mergebcdg.com/) (Merge BCDG USA LLC) is a corporation registered in USA that acts as the trusted third-party ([escrow](/#escrow-services-using-tokenomics)) between consumers and service providers. This corporation is in charge of **protecting** the capital from the consumers and **paying** the providers for the services they deliver.

## **How does Merge BCDG pay the service providers?**

Merge BCDG pays the service providers by generating MERGE rewards with the capital consumers lock. Merge BCDG obtains these rewards by either [staking](https://kb.projectmerge.org/guides/wallet/pos-staking) the coin or setting up MERGE [masternodes](https://kb.projectmerge.org/guides/wallet/masternodes). When the capital was lent in USD, Merge BCDG converts it first into MERGE in order to generate the corresponding rewards for the providers.

The corporation uses **all** those rewards to **pay** the service providers without charging any fees or commissions.

## **How can I start using a service?**

Choose a [service](/#merges-services) and follow the steps that are indicated. This involves the **locking** a predetermined amount of your capital. The **deposit** can be made through two different channels:

* From the USA-registered corporation, [Merge Blockchain Development Group](https://mergebcdg.com/shop) (Merge BCDG), for payments in **USD**.
* From our crypto payment gateway, for payments with **cryptocurrencies**.&#x20;

As soon as the deposit is made, the corresponding service provider will contact you to proceed with the service setup.

## **How long can I use a service?**

Each service provider sets the time period for a service to be used. This is, usually, on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.&#x20;

When the service's end period approaches, both the service provider and yourself will have the opportunity to negotiate the **renewal** of the service. If both sides wish to continue, the service renews automatically for another cycle.

## **What happens with the capital I lent once I stop using a service?**

The capital you lent is **entirely returned to you**. If you did send USD, this time you get MERGE coins (tokens) back, being free to decide whether to exchange them for another coin or keep them as they are.

# DNS Seeder

![](/files/-LtAxGgUmeoeXhOXfKfA)

## What is DNS Seeder?

**DNS Seeder** is the service that returns IP addresses of full [nodes](https://bitcoin.org/en/glossary/node) on a coin's network to **assist in peer (node) discovery**. This action is crucial when keeping all the nodes and wallets successfully synchronised and connected to the right chain, avoiding the risk of forking.

To accomplish its mission, DNS Seeder **crawls** a coin's network to expose a list of reliable nodes via a built-in DNS server. This list of peers is then shared with the nodes that attempt to connect to the said network.

With the next video, learn why it is important to have a DNS Seeder for a blockchain:

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7ysR5id3oY>" %}

### Features

The main features of DNS Seeder are:

* Regularly revisits known nodes to check their availability.
* Bans nodes after enough failures, or bad behaviour.
* Keeps statistics over (exponential) windows of 2 hours, 8 hours, 1 day, 1 week and 1 month, to base decisions on.
* Very low memory (a few tens of megabytes) and CPU requirements.
* Crawlers run in parallel.

The use of DNS Seeder completely **removes** the need of relying on **static** nodes and **manually** adding ***addnode*** IP addresses into a coin's config file. In these two cases, it is not guaranteed that a wallet will be fully and successfully synchronised, nor it is avoided the risk of connecting to the wrong chain and, thus, **forking**. This is due to the fact of trying to connect to nodes that may not be online or synchronised correctly and on the right chain.

### How does it work?

Assuming the *peers.dat* file is empty or does not exist, a coin's wallet will request DNS records to DNS Seeder in order to **find** **peers** that will help synchronise it on the coin’s network. DNS Seeder will then respond with 32 addresses (16 IPv4 and 16 IPv6) that are known as good and **reliable** connections. The number of received addresses can be larger by having the wallet performing multiple DNS requests.

**Note**: by default, a wallet will first check for peers on the *peers.dat* file, which is located on the coin’s data folder. When no peers are found there, the DNS Seeder will then be called. Peers received by DNS Seeder will be added into *peers.dat*. This behaviour can be altered in a coin’s wallet in order to give priority to DNS Seeder to be always called first.

### User interface

DNS Seeder does its work on the background, to create the list of reliable peers that is shared with nodes attempting to connect to the network. To help users having an overview of DNS Seeder, we provide its real-time findings and results in a user friendly interface. In this section, such interface is demonstrated.

**Note**: we will support the demonstration of DNS Seeder’s user interface using the Merge coin. The screenshots show the contents in English. However, the service is provided on Project Merge’s website in at least 10 different languages!

From Project Merge’s website, access our portfolio of coins using DNS Seeder: [https://seeder.projectmerge.org](https://seeder.projectmerge.org/)

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LtAxMFe_6gETHwfy-54" alt=""></div>

Once in there, choose *Merge* to access the user interface of Merge’s DNS Seeder (direct link: <https://seeder.projectmerge.org/merge>).

The content that gets displayed details the findings of DNS Seeder on Merge’s network. This data is used by the tool when providing the peers information to a new node that aims to connect to the mentioned network.

First, a summary of all the nodes connected to Merge’s network is shared:

* Total number of nodes online.
* Number of good nodes vs the bad ones.&#x20;
* Which Merge wallet version each node is using.&#x20;
* Number of nodes with IPv4 vs IPv6 addresses.

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LtAxRSHxqSL8q4xaEBo" alt=""></div>

Second, a world map is shown highlighting the countries the nodes are being ran from. This is based on the IP addresses of the nodes.

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LtAxWY08lxPNeo8P1Kd" alt=""></div>

And, third, the details of each of the nodes connected to Merge’s network is provided. For each node, the following details are presented:

* Location of the node based on its IP address.
* Wallet version the node is using.
* Status of the node.
* The port the node is using to connect.
* Latest block the node has found on the network.
* Last date the node was scanned by DNS Seeder.
* Reliability of the node.
* IP address of the node.

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LtAxbB4Ihs3AGIi7SYv" alt=""></div>

## Get DNS Seeder for your coin

Ever wondered why you have to *addnode* IP addresses to your coin’s config file? Why when the chain forks, everyone is looking for new *addnode* IP addresses? It all comes down to your network’s ability to **synchronise** with other nodes on the network to reach **consensus**. DNS Seeder makes sure that such synchronisation is **successfully** made, skipping the need of manually adding *addnode* IP addresses and avoiding the risk of having chain forks.

Merge has a professional development team that helps other projects and teams set-up and manage DNS Seeder for their cryptocurrencies. We provide competitive pricing and quick response to any support issues.

# Hosting

![](/files/-LsD2EneKYehwACO9JXr)

## What is Hosting?

**Hosting** is the service that hosts [masternodes](/guides/wallet/masternodes#what-is-a-masternode) of supported cryptocurrencies.&#x20;

Masternode owners greatly benefit from this service thanks to its safety, reliability and cost, as the service runs with [Tokenomics](/faq/tokenomics). This means they get masternode hosting by locking MERGE tokens in our registered escrow, and get the tokens back once the service period ends.&#x20;

The period for hosting a masternode is determined prior to using the service, and it can be renewed when both the masternode owner and hosting provider wish to extend the agreement.

## Features

1. **Safe**: We take care of the server side, you hold your coins at all times. This way your coins are never at risk while running your masternode and receiving the corresponding rewards.<br>
2. **Reliable**: Our dedicated servers, advanced configurations and fast Internet guarantees excellent quality of service. We protect our servers carefully from any possible threats that could compromise the proper functioning of the masternodes.<br>
3. **Innovative**: You run your masternodes by simply locking MERGE tokens in our [Escrow Service](/#escrow-services-using-tokenomics). You get these tokens back once the service agreement ends. Learn more about [Tokenomics](/faq/tokenomics).

## How does it work?

1. Start by visiting our Hosting page: <https://www.projectmerge.org/services/hosting><br>
2. Choose a coin from the list provided. Note that the service duration is indicated for each coin offered. Ensure you have the corresponding collateral to run a masternode for that coin.<br>
3. For the tokens that you will lock in escrow, you are asked to choose a deposit channel. We provide one for deposits using cryptocurrencies, and another for deposits in USD.<br>
4. Follow the instructions on the selected deposit channel to send the amount that is indicated there. The amount credited is locked by our [escrow service](/#escrow-services-using-tokenomics) as MERGE tokens, securing this way the use of the service.<br>
5. Once the deposit is confirmed, the hosting provider will inform you about the setup of the masternode for the coin you selected, providing with the necessary steps to run it and start receiving masternode rewards.<br>
6. Once the service period ends, the service can be renewed when both the service provider and yourself are willing to continue with the agreement. In any other case, you get back the MERGE tokens that were locked by the escrow.

# Snapshot

![](/files/-LsCszV7mQRgBog5kKjx)

## What is Snapshot?

**Snapshot** provides users with a secure and an up-to-date coin’s **blockchain**, **saving time** in **synchronising** their wallets, since the verification of each block is not needed, nor reindexing the blockchain from zero or where it was last left.

The snapshot is created **daily** and obtained from a clean coin's wallet that is synchronised from scratch. It is delivered in a compressed file (two formats are available: *tgz* and *zip*) that contains the necessary folders for a successful wallet synchronisation.

To ensure the received snapshot comes from the original source, the SHA256 hash of the compressed file is provided. In addition, two days of backup are available for download.

**Note**: the Merge coin is used for the demonstration of Snapshot. The screenshots show the contents in English. However, the service is provided on Project Merge’s website in at least ten different languages.

### How to use it

From Project Merge’s website, access our portfolio of coins using Snapshot: [https://snapshot.projectmerge.org](https://snapshot.projectmerge.org/)

#### **i. Choose Merge**

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCsOhcj45JEjNyoVML" alt=""></div>

Once in there, choose *Merge* to access Merge's Snapshot (direct link: <https://snapshots.projectmerge.org/merge>).&#x20;

#### **ii. Backup your wallet**

If opened, close your Merge wallet, and make a backup of your coin’s data folder. The default location of the folder is indicated below:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCsimpFDCITkSKKTMg" alt=""></div>

**Note**: It is a good practice to back up your wallet periodically. Learn how on our [Wallet](/guides/wallet#back-up-the-wallet) guide.

#### **iii. Remove old blockchain files**

Go to your coin’s data folder and delete the following directories and files, if they exist:

Folders:\
*– blocks*\
*– chainstate*\
*– sporks*\
*– zerocoin*

Files:\
*– banlist.dat*\
*– peers.dat*

Do not delete anything else. Find below a screenshot of your coin’s data folder:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCsVO05oZUEIXeW0zk" alt=""></div>

#### **iv. Unzip and restart**

Back on Merge's Snapshot site, click on *Download Now* and download the latest snapshot available.

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCssGdNVhsYpRQLp3q" alt=""></div>

Unzip the downloaded file and move the unzipped folders and files over into your coin’s data folder.

You can now open your wallet and let it start synchronising from the date the snapshot was created.

## Get Snapshot for your coin

With the features it offers, Snapshot becomes a time saver tool for those users who do not wish to spend hours, or days, synchronising their wallets.

# Swap App

![](/files/-LswSkQRF1T3zNA3D44x)

## What is Swap App?

A **coin swap** is the mechanism employed to move cryptocurrencies from one blockchain to another at a predetermined rate. As the coins on the initial blockchain may be incompatible with the new one, it becomes necessary to initiate a swap to carry users from the old blockchain to the new one.

**Swap App** is a web interface, 100% isolated, that performs coin swaps automatic and seamlessly, becoming a solution that **saves** valuable amount of **time** as opposed to manual swaps.

The application is able to swap many coins at the same time. Every transaction occurs on-chain with log files and database records for monitoring.

Furthermore, the original (swapped) coins are **automatically** **burned** during the swap process itself. This is possible due to all the original coins being sent to addresses that are generated randomly. No one, not even us, have access to the private keys of those addresses. This way, no one can ever access nor hold custody of those original coins, guaranteeing the Proof of Burn (PoB).

Swap App is also the tool Merge used to swap 100 altcoins to MERGE during our early days. The complexity of such a [historical event](https://hub.projectmerge.org/in-the-largest-swap-in-crypto-history-merge-swaps-abandoned-crypto-assets/) was greatly leveraged thanks to this application, which was able to automatically perform a total of 10,004 swaps and around 15 billion PoB's for the 100 altcoins that were synchronised with the application in three different groups.

We are offering Swap App as a service for other teams to securely facilitate their coin's swap to a fresh chain, migration to another currency and community takeovers. The next sections explain how our application worked for us and how the service can be requested.

**Note**: the Merge coin is used for the demonstration of Swap App.

### How to use it

Having the Merge wallet installed, allow the wallet to fully sync before sending any coins and backing it up.

In Merge's wallet, go to *File --> Receiving addresses…* and create a new MERGE address.

Enter Merge Swap App at [http://swap.projectmerge.org](http://swap.projectmerge.org/).

Login by copying and pasting your MERGE address in the space provided:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LWQVnbuMJREEP1NOBfZ" alt=""></div>

You are directed into the site logged in with your MERGE address. In there, you can choose the coin that you want to swap:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LVxlt8V9Pz6EYrmqMb1" alt=""></div>

Once you choose one, a new page will open showing the swap ratio and a calculator of how many MERGE you would receive given an amount of that particular coin. Most importantly, **two new addresses for the coin will be generated.** These addresses are created randomly and no one, not even us, have access to them. See example:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LW0TsB9zTRfq8tRT3FF" alt=""></div>

*We recommend doing one test before sending large amount of coins.*

Copy the first address, then go to your coin’s wallet. In there:

* Open the "Send" tab.
* Paste the copied address in the "Pay To" box.
* Optionally, add a "Label". For example: swap1-merge.
* Add part of the "Amount" you want to swap to MERGE.

**DO NOT SEND YET**

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LW0ZpBkEWE_xyBLbwzC" alt=""></div>

Now copy the second address and go back into the said coin’s wallet. Still in the send area:

* Located near the bottom, click on "Add Recipient". A new "Pay To" box will appear below the first one.
* Paste in the second address you copied in the "Pay To" box.
* Optionally, add a “Label”. For example: swap2-merge.
* Add the remaining of the "Amount" you want to swap to MERGE.

For this to work you **MUST** send both transactions at the **SAME** time.

**Thus, hit “Send” now:**

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LW0_VVr01qTauMebybv" alt=""></div>

Swap App will find the two transactions that have just been created once they get 50 or more confirmations, then sum both amounts and send back the equivalent of that sum in MERGE to your MERGE address, following the assigned ratio for the coin being swapped. By doing it this way, Swap App ensures that the coins you are sending are being burnt (destroyed) right away.

Now wait, in a short time the Merge coins will appear in your Merge wallet. You can either monitor that you have received your MERGE from either your Merge wallet or Swap App at <https://swap.projectmerge.org/#/transactions>.

# Toolbox

![](/files/-LsCO2sxX1rmgEdxH0Vk)

## What is Toolbox?

**Toolbox** is a network monitor utility that helps users verify their **status** in a coin’s **blockchain**. Its current offering comes with the following tools:

* [**Am I forked?**](/services/toolbox#am-i-forked) — this tool determines if a user’s wallet is connected to the correct chain.
* [**Masternode Status Check**](/services/toolbox#masternode-status-check) — this tool tells the user whether her/his masternode is currently running.

When a cryptocurrency has two different blockchains, only one can be correct. Coins produced by staking (PoS and masternodes) on the wrong chain results in the loss of those coins. Thus, being on the wrong chain can be a stressful event. Wouldn’t it be helpful to quickly check your wallet’s chain status? If your answer is yes, then read on.

**Note**: the Merge coin is used for the demonstration of Toolbox. The screenshots show the contents in English. However, the service is provided on Project Merge’s website in at least ten different languages.

### Am I Forked?

From Project Merge’s website, access our portfolio of coins using Toolbox: <https://toolbox.projectmerge.org/>

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCLmPqLhX9z9bu8107" alt=""></div>

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCLzeoYWkViodI6nnl" alt=""></div>

On your Merge wallet:

* Go to *debug console*.
* Type in **getblockhash XXXXXX** , where XXXXXX is the latest block in the chain that is automatically shown by Toolbox.
* Paste the result into Toolbox's search bar.&#x20;

**Note**: a video tutorial is provided for more detailed instructions. A link that will hook you up to a support line if you need more help is also given.

If your Merge wallet is connected to the correct chain, the following message will pop up:&#x20;

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCM92wvA9VRp2r_llm" alt=""></div>

Otherwise, the next message will be displayed:&#x20;

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LsCMLJhOgOBpbRhYFv0" alt=""></div>

For the second case, downloading a [snapshot](https://snapshot.projectmerge.org/) of Merge’s blockchain will help you get back on the correct chain!

# DEX Coin Listing

![](/files/-LtUBV6Q0bD3UrtNIfMb)

## What is DEX Coin Listing?

**DEX Coin Listing** is the service Merge offers to **cryptocurrencies** that wish to get **listed on MergeDEX**. Listing on our exchange, that sits under Birake’s Shared Exchange Network, involves several **benefits** besides the regular trading of coins.

Try out MergeDEX: [https://mergedex.com](https://mergedex.com/)

## Birake’s Shared Exchange Network

Birake introduces an innovative **shared exchange network** concept with a shared central database, opening new possibilities to how cryptocurrency is traded. By releasing exchanges within the same network, traders on a Birake-operated exchange, like MergeDEX, will make use of a **cross networked order book** and exchange liquidity, enabling swift fulfilment of a trade at the best price possible.

Exchanges operating on the Birake network can handle 100,000 transactions per second, providing users with an incredibly responsive and real time cryptocurrency trading experience, creating a truly scalable concept and trading ecosystem.

## MergeDEX features

Being part of Birake’s Shared Exchange Network brings a set of features that MergeDEX benefits from. Find some of them below.

* **Real time cryptocurrency trading:** MergeDEX is a trade engine for highly efficient matching of trades. The buyers and sellers can place orders and get matched for best pricing.
* **Order book shared worldwide:** MergeDEX benefits from all the active orders under Birake’s Shared Exchange Network.
* **Full protection:** MergeDEX runs on decentralised technology, which is safer than centralised-oriented ones.
* **Your coin, our infrastructure:** no technical knowledge is required, we take care of all tasks around having your coin listed and ready to be traded on MergeDEX.
* **Secure wallets:** Exchange wallets are completely isolated from the platform.
* **Multi-Level Referral Program:** MergeDEX users can earn rewards passively by promoting our Exchange to new users who register with their referral link.

## How much does it cost to get listed on MergeDEX?

Get listed with a one-time payment of 0.05 BTC.

## Apply to get listed on MergeDEX

Get listed on MergeDEX and benefit from its features. Your coin will be:

* listed and traded across all exchanges within Birake’s Shared Exchange Network;
* exposed to global marketing campaigns by MergeDEX and every exchange on the network;
* visible to every trader on the network, extending your current user base exponentially;
* enhanced with higher volume than trading on a single exchange.

Request to get listed via the following email address: <contact@projectmerge.org>

# DEX Referral

![](/files/-Lu413K8MAc9punGciuv)

## What is DEX Referral?

**DEX Referral** is a multi-level referral system for MergeDEX users that wish to earn passive rewards when they bring new traders onboard. Three referral levels are defined, providing each of them a specific reward’s rate:

* **1st level (direct referral):** 25% of the trading fees paid by this user goes to the referral user.
* **2nd level (referral from a 1st level user):** 10% of the trading fees paid by this user goes to the referral user.
* **3rd level (referral from a 2nd level user):** 5% of the trading fees paid by this user goes to the referral user.

**Note**: rewards are sent upon the completion of the corresponding order.

![](/files/-Lu4109iGS6rGB0B4W8k)

## How does it work?

We will explain how the multi-level referral system works with the following example:

John is a user registered on MergeDEX. Besides being able to trade on the exchange, he automatically receives a referral link that he can use to invite new traders to register on MergeDEX.

John decides to promote his referral link among friends via email and social networks.

Jane, a friend of John, sees John’s message and decides to join MergeDEX using John’s referral link. At that moment, she becomes a 1st level user of John, meaning that 25% of the trading fees paid by Jane will be sent to John.

Jane likes Merge DEX Referral system, and decides to promote her referral link to also receive passive rewards. She convinces Marie to get registered at MergeDEX.

Once Marie is registered, she becomes a 1st level user of Jane and a 2nd level user of John. For Jane, this means that 25% of the trading fees paid by Marie will be sent to her. For John, it means that 10% of the trading fees paid by Marie will be sent to him.

If now Peter signs up on MergeDEX using Marie’s referral link, he becomes a 1st level user of Marie, a 2nd level user of Jane and a 3rd level user of John. For Marie, this means that 25% of the trading fees paid by Peter will be sent to her. For Jane, it means that 10% of the trading fees paid by Peter will be sent to her. And for John, it means that 5% of the trading fees paid by Peter will be sent to him.

Jane paid $100 in trading fees on MergeDEX, and Marie and Peter paid $100 each too in their own orders.

* This brings for John $40 as a total reward from his referrals: $25 from Jane (100 \* 25% = 25), $10 from Marie (100 \* 10% = 10) and $5 from Peter (100 \* 5% = 5).
* For Jane, it brings $35 as a total reward from her referrals: Marie (25%) and Peter (10%).
* And Marie will receive $25 from Peter.

## Start referring MergeDEX today

The sooner one starts to refer and get referrals, the bigger is the referral network and greater are the chances to receive higher rewards using our referral system.

This service is provided for free. Traders simply need to register at [https://mergedex.com](https://mergedex.com/) and start sharing their referral link, which can be obtained at <https://trade.mergedex.com/referral>

To help you share your link all over the Internet, we provide social network’s share buttons on the referral page from above.

{% endhint %}

For a limited time, Merge offers crypto communities, whose coin and/or project has been abandoned, the opportunity of a coin swap. We protect the integrity of the abandoned coins' original ideas and projects, which may be able to continue under the guidance and collaboration of Merge.

# Swap Introduction

{% hint style="info" %}
**The Swap to Merge phase has ended -** [**Swap Stats**](https://hub.projectmerge.org/swap-success)**.**
{% endhint %}

## **What is a coin swap?** <a href="#what-is-a-coin-swap" id="what-is-a-coin-swap"></a>

A coin swap is the mechanism employed to move cryptocurrencies from one blockchain to another at a predetermined rate. As the coins on the initial blockchain may be incompatible with the new one, it becomes necessary to initiate a swap to carry users from the old blockchain to the new one.

Source: <https://en.bitcoinwiki.org/wiki/Coin_Swap>

## Why swapping to Merge? <a href="#why-swapping-to-merge" id="why-swapping-to-merge"></a>

The focus of Merge is more than just the value of a coin. It's a PROJECT. Merge will achieve many use cases once it’s established. In fact, the objective of Merge is to utilize all known use cases and create many that are unknown.

Phase 1's objective is to swap communities in the search of skills and talent. Merge wants to build many teams that focus on ideas for world use cases of blockchain technology and make them a reality.

**Some other questions regarding this:**

* **I have no skills nor talents. That is what Merge is searching for. Can I swap?** \
  All individuals are welcome to make up, help create and be a part of the Merge community and vision. Everyone is amazing in his or her own way and everyone has something to offer to the Merge community. The vision of Merge thinks of its community more like a small city, where everyone is welcome and has their little niche in it. Our ecosystem and sandboxes will have many positions available to assist the community that do not require specific skill sets or talents. The swap opportunity is simply offering a chance to be a part of an active community enjoying the experience.
* **Should I swap?** \
  It's entirely up to you and/or your community. Your choice is optional; you remain in full control of your investment. Merge is offering the swap as an opportunity to help others that found themselves in the same situation as the coin communities you belong to at this time.
* **If I do not swap, what will happen to my coin?** \
  If your community is in control of your coins, GitHub repository and they force a mandatory swap to dedicate the repository for Merge use, your coin will have further development. Alternatively, If your community is or is not in control of your coins, GitHub repository and do not force a mandatory swap, your coin will continue to run as normal.
* **The development team of the coin I own may return. Why swap?**

  Although there is always a chance that may happen, you or your community may want to reconsider the reasons why you would want to stay if there had been an extended leave of absence from your coin's development team. The Merge team is very active and involved. At the very least with any coin community you should be given periodic updates and the team should communicate with the community when asked upon. Merge cares about the community first!
* **Why should my community swap and not continue our community takeover?** \
  We encourage your community to do whatever they feel would be in their best interest. However, there are known facts and many hurdles to overcome once a community takes over a coin. Issues may arise such as lack of marketing, or business development or even conflicts of interest of the continued vision of the coin's original purpose. Your community may lack the funds or use case necessary to move forward. Merge is providing an opportunity to be a part of a much larger community and the ability by working together to overcome these problems.
* **Our community takeover is a success. Why swap to Merge?**

  Merge is an opportunity to work together with people just like yourselves. Like minded individuals and those of the management team at Merge see it better for all to link arms, share ideas, talents and resources while working together to assist each other in making all our ideas possible.
* **Another coin approached us with the same offer. Why should we swap to Merge?**

  A question like this is entirely up to the decision of your community. Merge offers a stable and equal swap opportunity for all the communities it approaches or those who approach Merge. Merge provides all the information needed about what it offers to assist you and your community to make an informed decision.
* **Should our community vote to determine if we should swap?**

  It would be advisable to seek the opinions of your community members to understand the support or lack thereof that you’d be bringing to the Merge ecosystem and collaborative team.
* **I'm in a community takeover and our leader does not want to swap. What do I do?** \
  Merge will not swap a coin with an active developer or admin without their involvement, it is their project. The management team of Merge would suggest you reach out to the powers that be with your coin and express an interest or open a dialogue about the opportunity to partner up / swap with Merge. However, the decisions of the powers that be with your coin are those of your coin. Merge will be available for purchase through the normal courses of trade transactions through the exchange we list on.
* **What is the required number of members in a community that allow us to swap?**

  Currently there is no set number of members needed to allow a swap; however, Merge reserves the right to establish priority protocols if other communities show greater interest from their membership base than that of your coin's community.
* **What happens to a community after they swap?** \
  The members that swapped for Merge are now members of the Merge community. The original coin and its community continue to perform as they normally would but with possibly less members and less available coins that are spendable. The original coins that have been used in the swap to Merge are sent to a burn address and are no longer available to be spent.

## **Who is in charge at Merge? Whom do I talk to about my community swapping?** <a href="#whom-do-i-talk-to-about-my-community-swapping" id="whom-do-i-talk-to-about-my-community-swapping"></a>

No one specific is in charge at Merge. Merge consists of a Core team of many individuals dedicated to guiding the community. Merge incorporates many aspects and benefits of a Community based crypto coin by utilizing the benefits of a corporate infrastructure. Merge will have a management team with support members along with proposals submitted by its community members. Should you need to discuss with someone about the swap, please use our [Contact](broken://pages/-LTZ68GksrqPB2JlvkMi) section to reach out to us using any of the available channels. A Merge Core member will contact you and help guide you and your community through the swap process.

## **What are the names of the coins Merge is swapping?** <a href="#what-are-the-names-of-the-coins-merge-is-swapping" id="what-are-the-names-of-the-coins-merge-is-swapping"></a>

We cannot reveal the names of the coins that are being swapped to help prevent manipulation. When a coin's swap date, calculation and ratio have been locked in, we will announce the name. Otherwise, it is what we call giving a "crypto shopping list". If we were to release a list of coins being swapped to Merge, everyone will know exactly which coins to purchase. We want to keep this swap process fair for everyone.

Those coins that have already been announced can be seen at page [Coins Swapped](/archive/swap-to-merge/coins-swapped).

## How long will the swap to Merge last?

The swap to Merge will last 60 days, starting on 18th January 2019. Three blocks of coins will be offered to be swapped during this period:

* **First block:** from 18th January 2019 to 15th February 2019.
* **Second block:** from 1st February 2019 to 1st March 2019.
* **Third block:** from 15th February 2019 to 15th March 2019.

## **We have no control of our Discord or community chat site. What do we do?** <a href="#we-have-no-control-of-our-discord-or-community-chat-site" id="we-have-no-control-of-our-discord-or-community-chat-site"></a>

It would be advisable that you create a discord channel for your community as that is one of the prerequisites for swapping to Merge. Merge cannot swap your coin without knowing and having a form of communication to your communit&#x79;**.**

## **We have a Telegram chat or other type of chat but do not have a Discord...** <a href="#we-have-a-telegram-chat-or-other-type-of-chat-but-do-not-have-a-discord" id="we-have-a-telegram-chat-or-other-type-of-chat-but-do-not-have-a-discord"></a>

Although Telegram is a popular means of communicating with coin communities, Merge’s primary source of communication is through Discord. It would be advisable that you create a Discord channel for your community as that is one of the prerequisites for swapping to Merge. Merge cannot swap your coin without knowing and having a form of communication to your community.

## **Swap Eligibility and Priority Procedures** <a href="#swap-eligibility-and-priority-procedures" id="swap-eligibility-and-priority-procedures"></a>

The following criteria will be used to determine the priority sequence of when a community coin will be swapped for Merge coins.&#x20;

Please note: **No coin created after JULY 1st 2018 will be eligible to swap to Merge.**

All coins must satisfy the following 3 basic requirements: \
&#x20;1 – Swapped coin must have a total market cap no greater than 4 BTC.\
&#x20;2 – Priority will be given to coins listed on CryptoBridge or an exchange that offers a range of 30-day price history (downloadable to an excel spreadsheet). The 30-day range will be the same for all swapped coins.\
&#x20;3 – Coins must have a Discord channel.

**Priority Sequence A – Ready for Swap** \
&#x20;1 – Must have a working wallet. \
&#x20;2 – Must be listed on at least one exchange. \
&#x20;3 – Must have a 30-day range of value available. \
&#x20;4 – Must have a working block explorer.

**Priority Sequence B – Referred to Valuation Team** \
&#x20;1 – Must have a working wallet. \
&#x20;2 – Coin is not listed on an exchange. \
&#x20;3 – Coin does not have a 30-day range of valuation. \
&#x20;4 – Coin currently has a working block explorer.

**Priority Sequence C – Referred to Block Explorer Team** \
&#x20;1 – Must have a working wallet. \
&#x20;2 – Must be listed on at least one exchange. \
&#x20;3 – Must have a 30-day range of value available. \
&#x20;4 – Coin does not have a block explorer.

**Priority Sequence D – Referred to Development Team** \
&#x20;1 – Coin has a Broken Wallet/Chain stopped. \
&#x20;2 – Coin is not on an Exchange or has been delisted. \
&#x20;3 – Coin does not have a 30-day range valuation. \
&#x20;4 – Coin has NO block explorer.

## **How will the swap ratio be determined for each coin?** <a href="#how-will-the-swap-ratio-be-determined-for-each-coin" id="how-will-the-swap-ratio-be-determined-for-each-coin"></a>

### **Priority Sequences A and C**

We have broken down the formula into 3 key components to arrive at one final value. They are as follows:

1 – We needed to calculate the “Total Coin Value” (Solve for C). So, we took the “Total Coin Supply” and multiplied it by the “30 Day Range Average”:\
&#x20;\- Total Coin Supply = A\
&#x20;\- 30 Day Range Average = B\
&#x20;\- Total Coin Value = C\
Therefore, part 1 of the formula is: `A x B = C`

2 – This step required us to calculate for the “Total Coins Available for Swap” (Solve for F). So, we took the “Total Coin Value” and divided it by the “Coin Swap Cap” and then multiplied it to the “Merge's Coin Allowance”:\
&#x20;\- Total Coin Value = C\
&#x20;\- Coin Swap Cap = D\
&#x20;\- Merge's Coin Allowance = E\
&#x20;\- Total Coins Available for Swap = F\
Therefore, part 2 of the formula is: `C/D*E = F`

3 – The final part of the equation is where we needed to calculate for the actual “Coin Ratio” (Solving for G). So, we use “Total Coin Supply” and divide it by “Total Coins Available for Swap”:\
&#x20;\- Total Coin Supply = A\
&#x20;\- Total Coins Available for Swap = F\
&#x20;\- Coin Swap Ratio = G\
Therefore, part 3 of the formula is: `A/F = G`

Formula in its entirety is: `Coin Swap Ratio (G) = A / (((A * B) / D) * E) = Total Coin Supply / (((Total Coin Supply * 30 Day Average) / Coin Swap Cap) * Merge's Coin Allowance)`

### **Priority Sequences B and D**

The "Total Coin Supply" of the coin being swapped is used to determine the ratio in relation to the "Merge's Coin Allowance": \
&#x20;\- Total Coin Supply = A\
&#x20;\- Merge's Coin Allowance = E\
&#x20;\- Coin Swap Ratio = G\
\
Formula in its entirety is:\
`Coin Swap Ratio (G) = A / E = Total Coin Supply / Merge's Coin Allowance`

## **Is there an example of how the swap ratio works?** <a href="#is-there-an-example-of-how-the-swap-ratio-works" id="is-there-an-example-of-how-the-swap-ratio-works"></a>

### **Priority Sequences A and C**

The following illustrates the formula and a hypothetical example of the calculation for the Swap Ratio Merge will use:

**Part 1**

\- Total Coin Supply (A) = 3,676,790 coins\
\- 30 Day Range Average (B) = 0.00000003 BTC\
\- Therefore, part 1 of the formula is: `A x B = C`\
**Total Coin Value (C)** = 0.1103037

**Part 2**

\- Total Coin Value (C) = 0.1103037\
\- Coin Swap Cap (D) = 4\
\- Merge's Coin Allowance (E) = 1,000,000\
\- Therefore, part 2 of the formula is: `C/D*E = F`\
**Total Coins Available for Swap (F)** = 27,575.925

**Part 3**

\- Total Coin Supply (A) = 3,676,790 coins\
\- Total Coins Available for Swap (F) = 27,575.925\
\- Therefore, part 3 of the formula is: `A/F = G`\
**Coin Swap Ratio (G)** = **133.34:1 Ratio**

### **Priority Sequences B and D**

The following illustrates the formula and a hypothetical example of the calculation for the Swap Ratio Merge will use:

\- Total Coin Supply (A) = 3,676,790 coins\
\- Merge's Coin Allowance (E) = 50,000\
\- The formula is: `A / E = G`\
**Coin Swap Ratio (G)** = **73.54:1 Ratio**

## **How is the value of MERGE determined?** <a href="#how-is-the-value-of-merge-determined" id="how-is-the-value-of-merge-determined"></a>

MERGE has no actual value until it is listed on an exchange.&#x20;

## **Where will the coins that Merge use for the swap come from?** <a href="#where-will-the-coins-that-merge-use-for-the-swap-come-from" id="where-will-the-coins-that-merge-use-for-the-swap-come-from"></a>

We have premined 23,000,000 MERGE to accommodate the swaps. We call it the [Swap Budget](/faq/cryptocurrency#swap-budget).

## **How many MERGE will be available for every community swap?** <a href="#how-many-merge-coins-will-be-available-for-every-community-swap" id="how-many-merge-coins-will-be-available-for-every-community-swap"></a>

Each community falling under Priority Sequences A and C will have an allowable swap amount up to a maximum of 1,000,000 MERGE. Those under Priority Sequences B and D will have an amount to a maximum of 50,000 MERGE.

## **Why is the swapped coin market cap limited to 4 BTC?** <a href="#why-is-the-swapped-coin-market-cap-limited-to-4-btc" id="why-is-the-swapped-coin-market-cap-limited-to-4-btc"></a>

For coins under Priority Sequences A and C, Merge sets this cap to be able to accommodate as many coins as possible, while still maintaining the integrity and value of Merge's coin itself. 1,000,000 MERGE maxes out at a 4 BTC cap. This will allow an equal swap for all communities provided they fall under the 4 BTC rule.

## Coin Issues <a href="#coin-issues" id="coin-issues"></a>

* **My coin does not have an explorer. Can I still swap?**

  Merge created a unified explorer that will be able to provide almost all coins the information required to perform the swap.
* **My coin's blockchain has stopped. Can I still swap?**

  If the coin is PoW it may only require some hashing power to get the blockchain moving again. We suggest reaching out to the mining pools and asking for assistance to help your community proceed with the swap.

  If your coin is full PoS only and the blockchain has stopped, the only way to move the chain again is to update the communities wallets and revert back to PoW/PoS and jumpstart the chain with miners hashing power to have the ability to swap. This is an extensive, complex and time consuming task. It is unlikely that the Merge team will have the ability to assist in this process. We suggest reaching out to your coin's community or the Merge community to seek and ask for assistance from the many unknown talented individuals amongst them.
* **My coin has no market cap. Can I still swap?**

  Merge has created a unified explorer that will be able to provide almost all coins the information required to perform the swap. Utilizing this explorer for your coin, Merge will be able to know the total supply of your coin, calculating it with its current value, and the results will reveal your coin's market cap.

## **What happens to the coins I send to Merge for the swap?** <a href="#what-happens-to-the-coins-i-send-to-merge-for-the-swap" id="what-happens-to-the-coins-i-send-to-merge-for-the-swap"></a>

All the coins are sent to addresses of the swapped coin that are generated randomly. No one, not even us, have ever used nor have access to the private keys of these addresses. Thus, it can be concluded that all the coins we receive are burned.

# Swap Instructions

{% hint style="info" %}
**The Swap to Merge phase has ended -** [**Swap Stats**](https://hub.projectmerge.org/swap-success)**.**
{% endhint %}

Watch this 11-minute [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tm4PElt5LM) to learn how to use Merge Swap App. Alternatively, follow the next instructions for a step to step guide:

1\. Ensure that the coin you want to swap for MERGE is part of the swap.

2\. [Install](/guides/wallet#install-the-wallet) Merge's wallet.

3\. Allow wallet to fully sync before sending any coins.

4\. Now it is a good time to [back up your wallet](/guides/wallet#back-up-the-wallet).

5\. In Merge's wallet, go to *File --> Receiving addresses…* and create a new MERGE address. We recommend labelling the address with the name of coin you are swapping to MERGE.&#x20;

6\. Enter Merge Swap App at [http://swap.projectmerge.org](http://swap.projectmerge.org/).

7\. Login by copying and pasting your MERGE address in the space provided:

![](/files/-LWQVnbuMJREEP1NOBfZ)

8\.&#x20;
You are directed into the site logged in with your MERGE address. In there, you can choose the coin that you want to swap:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LVxlt8V9Pz6EYrmqMb1" alt=""></div>

9\. Once you choose one, a new page will open showing the swap ratio and a calculator of how many MERGE you would receive given an amount of that particular coin. Most importantly, **two new addresses for the coin will be generated.** These addresses are created randomly and no one, not even us, have access to them. See example:

![](/files/-LWfAf6_rpa1hPB6jXvx)

{% hint style="info" %}
We recommend to do one test before sending large amount of coins.
{% endhint %}

10\. Copy the first address, then go to your coin’s wallet. In there:

* Open the "Send" tab.&#x20;
* Paste the copied address in the "Pay To" box.
* Optionally, add a "Label". For example: swap1-merge.
* Add part of the "Amount" you want to swap for MERGE.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**DO NOT SEND YET**
{% endhint %}

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LW0_Cdp_UQBMX-jt1Ib" alt=""></div>

{% hint style="warning" %}
For this to work you **MUST** send both transactions at the **SAME** time.
{% endhint %}

**Thus, hit “Send” now:**

<div align="left"><img src="/files/-LW0_VVr01qTauMebybv" alt=""></div>

12\. Merge Swap App will find the two transactions that have just been created once they get 50 or more confirmations, then sum both amounts and send back the equivalent of that sum in MERGE to your MERGE address, following the assigned ratio for the coin being swapped. By doing it this way, Merge Swap App ensures that the coins you are sending are being [burnt](/archive/swap-to-merge/swap-details#what-happens-to-the-coins-i-send-to-merge-for-the-swap) (destroyed) right away.&#x20;

13\. Now you wait, in a short time the Merge coins will appear in your Merge wallet. You can either monitor that you have received your MERGE from either your Merge wallet or Merge Swap App at <https://swap.projectmerge.org/#/transactions>.

## Remuneration

Two types of compensation are provided to the Merge team. These can be categorized into two phases:

### Pre-launch Phase

Covers the period between the foundation of Merge, by the end of June 2018, and the day Merge's coin was released on the mainnet, by the end of December 2018.&#x20;

For this period, the team agreed to compensate, with Merge masternodes, the effort of those colleagues who started from the very beginning and actively contributed in the project. Then, those colleagues who joined in the middle of that process were agreed to receive a monthly salary in MERGE.

The total amount of Merge masternodes to grant were never going to exceed the allowance the team set for them, which was a total of 100 masternodes (1,000,000 MERGE, which was the same given to the swapped coins of [Priority Sequences A and C](/archive/swap-to-merge/swap-details#how-many-merge-coins-will-be-available-for-every-community-swap)). In the end, only 55 masternodes were granted and the remaining allowance stayed as part of the [Main Budget](/faq/cryptocurrency#main-budget).

The mentioned masternodes were granted soon after Merge's coin was born. However, the team decided to lock them during one year to show the community the team's compromise towards the success of Merge. Moreover, locking those masternodes helped supporting the coin's network during the first weeks and the [Swap to Merge](/archive/swap-to-merge) event.

### Post-launch Phase

Covers the period after Merge's coin was released on the mainnet, from the end of December 2018 onwards.

For this period, the team agreed on a monthly compensation for those colleagues who further contribute with the development of Merge.
